Lepidopteran Kite
Lepidopteran Kites are more related to jellyfish than anything else, right down to the rhythm of their bodies whilst floating in air. They can only be sustained by the moist conditions of Vega's atmosphere make-up due to the creature's constant mucus secretion. A blanket of mucus is always protecting Kites from simply withering away. The mucus is thin and translucent and is what gives the Kites their glow-in-the-dark aura against the ever-dark galaxy. The color coating appears to be an off-white, caught somewhere between pastel blue and pastel green. It's a haunting thing to set sight upon, and it's extraordinarily luminescent. From far enough away, Kites seem just like stars given their maximum dimensions of a square foot.
They look like nothing else comparable. Kites are composed of countless limbs, sized up to be the width of a strand of human hair each. They all come together in the center, where the only organ of the being is located. It's a chamber, really, hidden inside. Kites are spineless, yet they manage to fly with substances replacing compact bone. At the end of each tentacle is a rounded feather. It's quite common to see Lepidopteran Kites missing some. They're bound to, but it doesn't matter with how many of them they have. The exact number of tentacles will vary, but all of them have enough to be too much to count.
These creatures are very docile, friendly, and delicate, known often to land on the shoulders of aliens for a rest. Most aliens will respond respectfully, and lift them back up to flight. Think butterflies. They're such pure spirits. They couldn't hurt anything. They couldn't even if they wanted to, because they aren't equipped with anything made to kill.
The truly mind-bending thing about them is that they never do any physical consumption. All of their nutrients are derived from a component in the Vegan air. Czerupsa is an element composed of mystery molecules, and it's given off by the cloned trees of the planet. Czerupsa makes up about 76% of the atmosphere. This alone gives Lepidopteran Kites every single thing they need to survive. A special gland protected inside the center gathering of tentacles that is just a simple dimple is what Kites breathe from. The tissue surrounding is particularly rough because it's the sole thing they require to survive. This is one of the most simple organisms of the solar system. Microscopic raised bumps on the epidermis around the powerhouse organ act as converters, making sugar from only moisture and Czerupsa. Kites can live on a grain of sugar for up to a week. A revolution in itself, the lepidopterans are the only animals who can function like plants.
